Hideo Nomo has been released by the Royals, according to the Miami Herald. The Royals earlier requested his unconditional release, designating him for assignment April 20. He is now a free agent, and was to remain on waivers until Tuesday or until another team claimed him.

The Kansas City Royals have requested unconditional release waivers on pitcher Hideo Nomo , according to the Sports Network. The 39-year-old Japanese import was 0-0 with an 18.69 earned run average over 4.1 innings in three games with the Royals.

Hideo Nomo has been designated for assignment, according to the Kansas City Star. His comeback was considered a long-shot, and the team made the move to make room on the roster for pitcher Luke Hochevar, who is scheduled to start on Sunday.
