The Nationals activated Dmitri Young from the DL Friday. Young has been out nearly all year with a back ailment.

May 15, 2008
Dmitri Young will be activated from the DL and resume the starting role at first base in place of the injured Nick Johnson, who will be out of action for four to six weeks due to a torn tendon in his right wrist, according to the AP.

Dmitri Young will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday, the Washington Post reports. He does not have a timetable for his return from a sore lower back.

Dmitri Young experienced a sudden and dramatic breakthrough with his back injury Wednesday when the Nationals massage therapist focused on the first baseman's hip flexor and not his back. "All of a sudden, he felt instant release," GM Jim Bowden said in the Washington Post. "She found the spot." Young will go to extended spring training Sunday, but the team has no timetable for his return.

Dmitri Young, on the DL with an injured lower back, hasn't seen much improvement so he is searching for a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic, according to MLB.com. "He is not making progress," general manager Jim Bowden said. "He can't turn after he hits. We can't get him over the hump."
