Dmitri Young was sentenced on Tuesday to a year of probation for assaulting his former girlfriend, according to the AP. According to the Detroit News, Dmitri Young was released Wednesday because of personal issues and not because of performance on the field. "To put it bluntly, he was a growing cancer, someone who cared too much about himself, and not enough about the team," a team source told the paper. "I thought this was going to happen. You could see it building. People will say all the right things, but the truth is he won't be missed by many of us." GM Dave Dombrowski said on Wednesday that Young's cut was related to performance.

The Tigers unconditionally released Dmitri Young from their roster following Wednesday's game, according to the AP. Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said letting Young go was strictly performance related. "The reports from Lakeland are that he's in great shape and really busting his butt," assistant GM Al Avila said.
