The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Cardinals manager Tony La Russa admitted yesterday that Scott Rolen remains limited by the strained calf that kept the third baseman out of 16 games last month. "I think he's encouraged how he feels; he's not 100 percent," La Russa said. "Use that word, 'playable.' That's what he is. I think he's sore, but he's all right."

Doctors recommended that Scott Rolen accept a series of injections to help cushion his sore knee, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. A recent MRI revealed that he does have some bone bruises in the joint, though the club insists that the cartilage is sound. Arthroscopic surgery remains on option if his condition worsens, though Cardinals medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta said Wednesday, "Surgery isn't seen as a necessity now."

Scott Rolen underwent an MRI on his sore left knee, according to the AP. The exam didn't reveal anything other than irritation. He will continue to play through the ailment, and has no plans to skip the All-Star game on July 13. He had a similiar ailment last year that simply disappeared after a couple of weeks, so Rolen is hoping that the same thing will eventually happen this season.

"When he came in he started getting a headache and some ringing in his ears, and it was time to evaluate him," Weinberg added. "But if he's clear (today) and there's no headache and no ringing in the ears, he'll be in there. If things get worse, he won't be."
