It's possible the Yankees will send Mariano Rivera to get a follow-up exam on his right arm, according to the New York Daily News. Rivera missed about three weeks last month with a muscle strain below his elbow and was limited to one-inning stints during the playoffs because of it.

The Yankees don't plan on letting Mariano Rivera pitch more than one inning in any game during the ALDS, according to Newsday. "We just thought it was probably the sanest thing to do," manager Joe Torre said. "That's the best he's felt," Joe Torre said. "There was no evidence of anything bothering him. The road trip is certainly reasonable. Mariano Rivera had an MRI exam on his right forearm before Thursday, according to the AP. The exam showed no structural damage but did show a mild muscle strain at the elbow. "It's not pain, it's discomfort. It's not inflammation," he said. "You try to avoid going out back-to-back games but if you can't, you can't." Rivera obviously isn't very badly hurt, as he picked up the save in Thursday's game. "It's a matter of being as careful as we can, giving him time to warm up," manager Joe Torre said. "It's a relief to know his elbow is in fine shape."

Mariano Rivera has been working with pitching coach Ron Guidry on developing a changeup to complement his cutter, according to Newsday. "It's not something that he's going to throw a lot," Guidry said, "but there's going to be some point in time when he decides to throw one to some hitter, and it will scare the hell out of them and it will send a message to somebody else." Rivera used to throw a changeup when he was a starter in the minors, but he let it go when he became a reliever in 1996.
