Gregg Zaun produced the Jays offense in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Tigers. The Toronto catcher hit a ninth inning solo-shot off closer Todd Jones to get the Jays on the scoreboard.

Gregg Zaun will ride the pine today in favor of Rod Barajas, according to the Providence Journal. He was battling a sore hamstring through spring training, and is off to a cold start as he only has three hits over 13 a-bats so far, with three strikeouts.

Gregg Zaun was scratched for Tuesday action due to a tight hamstring, according to Toronto Globe and Mail. He is considered day-to-day with the ailment.

Gregg Zaun was previously only hitting 1-for-7 this spring but ended his slump with a vengeance on Thursday as he went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while recording his first home run. Zaun is expected to remain the Jays' starting catcher this season, with Rod Barajas serving as top backup.

Jays manager John Gibbons told the team website on Saturday that Gregg Zaun is his catcher, and Rod Barajas isn't in a position to win the starting job. Barajas will see plenty of time behind the plate -- and possibly also at first base according to the skipper. Zaun's a starting option in AL-only leagues that require two backstops and a fringe option in all other formats.
