The Blue Jays have re-signed Gregg Zaun and intend to make him their starting catcher, according to the AP. A deal with Rod Barajas fell through. Zaun's deal is two years for $7.25 million with an option for 2009. "Gregg Zaun is our catcher," said general manager J.P. Ricciardi.

The Blue Jays are close to re-signing Gregg Zaun, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com. Assuming this gets finished, it will be interesting to see if the looming deal between Rod Barajas and the Blue Jays hit some sort of snag.

With Shea Hillenbrand designated for assignment, Gregg Zaun should see more action as the DH. He batted fifth and served as the DH on Wednesday night against the Rangers and went 0-for-4 at the plate.

Gregg Zaun had an MRI taken of his calf yesterday after he aggravated the muscle on Wednesday, according to the Toronto Star. He began the season on the disabled list due to the same problem and may face another trip to the DL, if the muscle doesn't improve quickly.

Gregg Zaun altered his batting stance during the offseason, and it is working well for him so far this spring, as he's batting .667 in three games. "I made some pretty radical swing changes in the offseason," Zaun said. "It's a work in process, but I'm definitely seeing the ball better and it's a lot more manageable swing." Zaun will backup the newly-acquired Bengie Molina this season.
