Joe Borowski is now 0-3 with an 8.22 ERA in seven rehab appearances, and it's unclear whether he will return from his shoulder injury this season, according to the Daily Southtown. "He's doing better and his arm feels good," Cubs trainer Dave Groeschner said. "But it's still a matter of getting his arm strength back. The only way to do that is to keep throwing. He may be back by the end of September. It depends on his arm."

Joe Borowski threw to live batters Wednesday and could be close to going out on a minor league rehab assignment sometime soon. He indicated that all of the strength has returned to his shoulder. He's been sidelined since June with a small tear in his rotation cuff.

The Cubs placed Joe Borowski on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. The move was retroactive to June 5. LaTroy Hawkins picked up the save on Sunday and should get most of the save chances while Borowski is out.

Joe Borowski allowed two runs off two hits in just two thirds of an inning on Friday. Though his ERA climbed to 8.02 on the year, he blew just his second save. Dusty Baker finally showed signs that he might be ready to replace Borowski as the club's closer when he said he would have to think about replacing him. LaTroy Hawkins is clearly the favorite for the job if a change is made.

Joe Borowski got get another vote of confidence from Cubs manager Dusty Baker on Saturday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Borowski blew his first save in 23 chances in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, and Baker used LaTroy Hawkins for a save chance in the second game. However, Baker said that Borowski was not used for the second game because he threw 31 pitches in the first. In affirming Borowski's status, Baker said "I'll take 22 more [saves] in a row."

Cubs manager Dusty Baker said he used LaTroy Hawkins instead of Joe Borowski to close Saturday's game due to matchups, according to the Chicago Tribune. "It's no big deal," Baker said. "Don't read anything into it. Joe is my closer. It's just that [Saturday] we used LaTroy because of the matchups. It's great when you have somebody else you can go to in a situation like that."

After throwing 16 pitches while picking up his third save of the year on Friday, Joe Borowski watched LaTroy Hawkins pick up his first save of the year by collecting the final four outs on Saturday. Dusty Baker decided to let Hawkins finish because all three batters in the ninth are former AL hitters that Hawkins had faced before.

Some people feel that Borowski will eventually lose his job as the club's closer to LaTroy Hawkins. Whether that comes true remains to be seen, but Borowski has struggled in two of his four outings this year after struggling this spring to regain all of his velocity.

"I would like to see a little more velocity," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "He looks the same. The delivery is the same. But the ball is not coming out the same. I hope it\'s just training and fatigue and heat and all of that." Baker added that Borowski remains the closer.
