The Tigers team website reports that Gary Sheffield's days as a regular outfielder appear to be over. After just over a week in left field, Sheffield was out of the lineup on Wednesday for a day off. When he returns on Thursday, however, he'll be back at designated hitter. Manager Jim Leyland made the decision and talked with Sheffield about it prior to Wednesday's game. Leyland saw signs that Sheffield is still being bothered by his right shoulder, a sign Sheffield confirmed.

Gary Sheffield will serve as the Tigers' DH against the Yankees today, according to MLB.com.

Gary Sheffield commented on his move from the DH spot to left field, according to CBSsports. Sheffield said, "I think DH is a position for guys who can't do nothing else. You have to accept it in your mind. I never realized how mental it is. I was noticing fans in the stands, popcorn vendors. I was noticing things I never noticed."

Gary Sheffield has been moved from the Tigers' designated hitter role into left field for tonight's game against Boston. Magglio Ordonez will serve in the DH role for Detroit.

Gary Sheffield is 6-for-10 with two doubles, a homer, and two RBI lifetime against Daisuke Matsuzaka, tonight's opposing hurler for Boston, according to MLB.com.
