The Tigers acquired Gary Sheffield from the Yankees on Friday in exchange for three pitching prospects - the highly-touted Humberto Sanchez, Kevin Whelan and Anthony Claggett, according to ESPN.com. The Tigers also agreed to a two-year contract extension with Sheffield, which will keep him in Detroit through the 2009 season. With the Tigers outfield already congested, Sheffield will likely man first base and serve as the DH for his new team.
