Paul Byrd pitched well enough to win on Wednesday night. The right-handed veteran exited the 8-6 loss to the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 6-1 lead. Reliever Rafael Betancourt, who is having a miserable season, walked Clete Thomas to load the bases and allowed a double to Carlos Guillen to make it 6-3. Matt Joyce then tied the game with a two-run homer ending Betancourt's night and Byrd's chance at fourth win.

Paul Byrd was rocked for six earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Friday's disheartening 12-3 loss to the Twins in Minnesota, with three walks and four strikeouts. He gave up two homers, one to Nick Punto and the other to Delmon Young.
