Jorge Posada and the Yankees have agreed to a new deal, according to the New York Daily News. It's a four-year package reportedly worth $52.4 million.

While the Yankees have been slow in trying to work out a new deal with Jorge Posada, the Mets are preparing to make the catcher their No. 1 offseason priority, according to the New York Daily News. It's believed the Yankees have discussed offering Posada a three-year contract worth $40 million, but that may not be enough, especially if the Mets come over the top.

If Jorge Posada doesn't end up re-signing with the Yankees, might he make the move from The Bronx to Queens? The Mets have a need at catcher with Paul Lo Duca filing for free agency and are interested in Posada, according to the New York Post. The team is also interested in bringing Lo Duca back, but Posada would represent an upgrade if they are willing to spend more money.

The Yankees have yet to have any talks with soon-to-be free agent Jorge Posada, but they are planning on offering the veteran catcher a three-year contract worth about $40 million, according to The New York Daily News. Posada is coming off a career year, hitting .338 with 20 homers and 90 RBI. Several other teams have already expressed interest in the catcher, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he ultimately decided to return to New York.

Jorge Posada plans to test the free-agent market at the end of the season, and will not negotiate a new deal now, according to Newsday. Posada, 35, has been in the Yankees organization since signing in 1991. "I've never experienced free agency. I'm looking forward to it. It's the first time ever." Posada's putting himself in a good negotiation position with his bat, hitting .327 with nine homers and 49 RBI so far this year.

Jorge Posada might play first base Tuesday night at Colorado so the Yankees can keep his bat in the lineup when backup Wil Nieves catches Mike Mussina, which has become the routine, the AP reports. If everything goes OK, Posada could be back at first when Mussina starts again Sunday in San Francisco. Had these games been in AL parks, the Yankees would consider giving Posada the start at DH.
