Mike Sweeney departed Tuesday for Los Angeles to consult with physician Robert Watkins about an offseason conditioning program, according to the Kansas City Star. Sweeney is trying to recover from a balky back that has forced him to miss much of the past three years. He wants to avoid surgery, but is willing to participate in any other kind of rehabilitation program.
