Chris Carpenter, coming back from Tommy John surgery, is slated to make his second rehab start on Friday, this time for Triple-A Memphis, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Carpenter tossed four scoreless innings Sunday for Double-A Springfield, throwing 61 pitches. He said he expects his target to be at least 70 on Friday.

Chris Carpenter only allowed one hit over four shutout innings in his first rehab start Sunday, and reported no physical issues following the outing, but he was not pleased with his command, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Carpenter said, "I'm going to go by my stuff. And obviously command of my fastball today is not where it needs to be." The Cardinals had put Carpenter on a limit of 60-70 pitches. After using only 10 to retire the first three hitters he faced, Carpenter needed 16 pitches in both the second and third innings and 19 more to get out of the the fourth. He walked four, while missing with 30 of his 61 pitches.

Chris Carpenter will make his first appearance Sunday with Double-A Springfield, according to MLB.com. With strong reports on Carpenter out of Florida, the Cardinals are not hesitating to get him some tougher action immediately.
