According to the Boston Herald, the Red Sox don't believe the condition of J.D. Drew's shoulder will be reason for voiding the contract the two parties have agreed upon. However, it's believed that the club is looking to reword the contract to protect themselves in case Drew's shoulder eventually breaks down. Predictably, agent Scott Boras reportedly is balking at making such a change.

The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox are having J.D. Drew see a doctor for another opinion on his shoulder. It is believed that the shoulder issue is the reason why Drew's five-year deal with the Sox has not been finalized.

The Boston Globe reports that J.D. Drew has agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with the Red Sox. Drew could play center, right or even left field for the Sox depending on other moves made in the offseason.

Red Sox Gm Theo Epstein said Monday that an announcement of a J.D. Drew deal is not necessarily imminent at these meetings, according to the Boston Herald. "It’s hard to tell - maybe, maybe not," Epstein said. "It’s not definite, as has been speculated." The speculation was that the Sox and Drew had a four-year, $56 million deal in place.

After going nearly two months without a home run, J.D. Drew has hit 10 in the last 47 games, including four in the last nine games, the Dodgers official site reports. J.D. Drew wore a protective sleeve over his left elbow during batting practice yesterday, according to the LA Times. Trainer Stan Johnston said it was simply a precaution to protect against aggravating mild soreness in the joint. Drew said he could have played on Sunday, but manager Grady Little said he held Drew out because he didn't like Drew's record against starter Jason Schmidt, not due to the elbow.
