Bartolo Colon worked three innings on Saturday night. It was his first start since coming off the minor league DL due to a strained oblique. Colon threw 49 pitches in the start, and the Sox hope he can work up to 76 pitches in his next outing, the Providence Journal reports.

Bartolo Colon threw two innings in extended spring training in Sarasota, Florida, today, according to the Boston Globe. He threw 19 pitches during the game, then threw another 16 pitches in a bullpen session.

Bartolo Colon has an opt-out clause in his contract that permits him to become a free agent if he wasn't on the big league roster by today, but a source indicated Colon will not exercise his right to leave Boston at this time, according to FanNation. Colon and the Red Sox reached an informal understanding that the opt-out date would be delayed until June 1.

Bartolo Colon threw 35 pitches in the Fenway bullpen on Tuesday and will do so again today, according to the Boston Herald. With no lingering signs of the right oblique strain that surfaced April 6, Bartolo Colon is still on schedule to return to the Triple-A Pawtuckett rotation on Monday.
