They recently just moved Brett Myers back to the rotation, but the Phillies are still looking for another starter. Bartolo Colon is one guy that interests them. Former Phillie Randy Wolf is another. "We had conversations about both players," assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Both Colon and Wolf are tremendous injury risks, but they also have more upside than most of the other available free agents.

Bartolo Colon (elbow) is not on the ALDS roster for the Angels. Dustin Moseley got the nod in his place.
September 29, 2007
Nothing is set in stone, but the Angels are expected to use Bartolo Colon out of the bullpen in the playoffs - at least to begin with. "When you have a talent like Bartolo, you want him on your staff in some capacity," manager Mike Scioscia said in the AP. "We've looked at a couple scenarios, but we're not going to rule out Bart starting, but we're looking at the scenario of him helping us out of the pen."
September 19, 2007
Bartolo Colon will not be able to pitch Wednesday due to his sore back, the AP reports. He's hoping to be able to pitch in the final week.
September 17, 2007
Manager Mike Scioscia has yet to decide whether Bartolo Colon or Ervin Santana will get the start on Wednesday, according to the LA Times. They will both throw bullpen sessions today. At this point, though, it shouldn't really matter who starts for fantasy purposes, because both have to be considered risky options.
September 12, 2007
Bartolo Colon will make his first start since returning from the DL on Friday against the White Sox, according to the LA Times. He'll take the rotation spot of Ervin Santana, who will be moved to the bullpen. "Ervin has shown he can be valuable in the bullpen, and if Bart can throw the ball with any consistency down the stretch, it will give us a lift," Scioscia said. "If Bart has issues with health or execution or performance, Ervin is not too far away from going back into the rotation. It's a better way to go right now." Assuming Colon pitches effectively over the next couple of weeks, he should be a part of the Angels' postseason rotation.
September 9, 2007
The Angels activated Bartolo Colon from the disabled list on Sunday. While it's another step towards a return from his elbow injury, the Angels have yet to schedule a date for his next start. It should come soon, but we'll have to wait for manager Mike Scioscia to make an announcement.
September 9, 2007
Bartolo Colon is about ready to return to the rotation. He's currently on target to start next Sunday against the Royals, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. However, if the Indians have a spot in the postseason locked up by then, they may hold off on putting Colon back on the mound. He's been out with an elbow injury.
September 1, 2007
Bartolo Colon allowed three runs over five innings during Thursday's rehab start, but he isn't ready to come off the disabled list. "He pitched well," manager Mike Scioscia told the LA Times. "His velocity was good, and he carried through to almost 70 pitches." Colon is slated to toss 85-90 pitches in his next rehab start on Tuesday, as he continues his recovery from an elbow injury.
August 29, 2007
Bartolo Colon threw a bullpen session Tuesday and will make a rehab start at Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday the AP reports. He's been on the DL since July 24 with right elbow irritation.
August 23, 2007

August 22, 2007
Bartolo Colon, recovering from an elbow injury, will begin a rehab assignment this weekend, according to the LA Times. The Angels have no intention of using him as a reliever when he's able to return, like they did with Kelvim Escobar in 2005. "I don't think that's as much of an option as it was with Kelvim," Manager Mike Scioscia said. "Kelvim had experience as a reliever, and we had a big need in the bullpen. Let's get Bart healthy first, and we'll see." The best estimate has Colon returning from the DL in early September.
August 22, 2007
Bartolo Colon threw 75 pitches Tuesday afternoon, 45 of them in a simulated game, as he continued to work his way back from an elbow problem, the AP reports. Manager Mike Scioscia said Colon threw with good velocity and came out of the work OK. A rehab assignment could follow early next week.
August 21, 2007
Bartolo Colon, on the DL because of an elbow irritation, will throw the first of at least two simulated games today, according to the LA Times. Barring a setback, the right-hander will probably begin a rehab assignment early next week. Even when Colon returns, though, he'll remain a risky investment in fantasy.

August 17, 2007
Bartolo Colon, on the DL with an elbow injury, will pitch a simulated game Saturday and then probably start a rehabilitation assignment, according to the LA Times. If Colon does not return by the Aug. 31 deadline for postseason eligibility, the Angels still could include him on a playoff roster by substituting him for a pitcher on the disabled list.

His next step will be a 45-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, which could lead to a rehab assignment this weekend. It's beginning to look like Colon might actually make it back from his elbow injury within a few weeks.
August 11, 2007
Bartolo Colon tossed 15 fastballs in a bullpen session on Friday. "The ball came out of his hand good; he finished his pitches well," pitching coach Mike Butcher said, according to the LA Times. "He's looking to get comfortable, to get used to the slope, to build up his endurance. I feel like he's going to be back this year. It just depends on how he gets through all the hoops he has to jump through." It seems like the odds are stacked against Colon, considering how the last year has gone for him, but it is possible he could return from his ailing elbow later this month.
August 9, 2007
Bartolo Colon has progressed enough in his long-toss sessions that he will begin to throw lightly in the bullpen, according to the LA Times. Colon, who has been out since July 24 with elbow irritation, will need two or three bullpen workouts before being considered for a rehab assignment.
August 8, 2007
Bartolo Colon plans to throw off a mound Friday for the first time since going on the DL with a sore elbow. "It'll be more of a touch-and-feel thing, just to see how the ball comes out of his hand," manager Mike Scioscia said, according to the AP. "He still needs to step up with two or three bullpen sessions and test his arm aggressively with all of his pitches. If he turns the next one loose, full-gorilla, there's a possibility that he's ready for a (rehab) game, but we'll take it one step at a time." We'll have to wait to see how his mound session goes before even considering a timetable for his return to action.
August 1, 2007

Dustin Moseley will make his second consecutive fill-in start on Friday at Oakland.
July 25, 2007
Bartolo Colon went on the 15-day DL with a sore right elbow Tuesday, the AP reports. He had left Monday night's game after pitching the first inning against Oakland, giving up four runs. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said after Tuesday's game that there was a "silver lining" regarding Colon's injury, which was diagnosed as an impingement in his elbow. "It's some irritation in there. June 16, 2007
Bartolo Colon has struggled since returning from his torn rotator cuff in late April; in his past four starts, he's 1-2 with a 9.15 ERA. However, pitching coach Mike Butcher said Colon's problems stem from pitch location, not his shoulder, according to the LA Times. He routinely hit 94 mph with his fastball on Thursday, which seems to support the notion that Colon's shoulder is OK. Let's hope that's the case, and that Colon will turn things around on his own soon.
June 7, 2007

His regular turn on Sunday against Baltimore will be taken by either Joe Saunders, Dustin Moseley or Hector Carrasco.

Bartolo Colon appears to be headed to the DL. Colon admitted that the triceps tightness that forced him out of his May 6 start flared up and bothered him throughout his start on Monday. If Colon does in fact need a DL stint, the Angels probably would either recall Joe Saunders from Triple-A Salt Lake or move reliever Dustin Moseley back into the rotation, according to the LA Times.

Bartolo Colon admitted that the triceps tightness that forced him out of his May 6 start flared up and bothered him throughout his start on Monday. Colon was roughed up for nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits over 6 1/3 innings. "It's not pain, but it doesn't allow me to get as loose as I want to get," Colon said to the LA Times through an interpreter. "I don't want it to affect the way I pitch. I don't want it to carry through the rest of the season." Manager Mike Scioscia said that the team was "going to take a look at" Colon's arm, which likely means an MRI. It's not clear at this point if Colon will have to miss any starts. He's scheduled to pitch Saturday against Baltimore.

"But I'm not worried, because I've had this in the past and have been able to pitch with it. God willing, I will be able to make my next start." At this point, he's day-to-day.
