The Cubs will likely activate Kerry Wood from the DL on Friday. He has been on the DL since the start of the regular season with tendinitis in his right shoulder. "I got back in the big leagues. Manager Lou Piniella said the right-hander might need only two or three more rehab appearances before he's ready to join the Cubs bullpen, according to the AP. Kerry Wood could come off the disabled list within a week. He likely will work an inning or two for Triple-A Iowa early next week, and if all goes well, it looks like he could be called up by the Cubs next weekend, according to the Chicago Tribune. Considering his endless health problems, nothing will ever be certain about Wood, but for the moment things appear to be going well in his rehab from a strained right triceps and sore shoulder.
July 27, 2007
Kerry Wood had a strong final outing for Single-A Peoria on Friday, striking out one and retiring all three batters he faced. "Kerry looked terrific tonight, as clean as you'd want to see after back-to-back outings," Cubs GM TJim Hendry said at news conference following Wood's appearance. "His fastball was right at 92 to 93 mph. He had good command and he threw some really good breaking balls." The Cubs are expected to move Wood up to Triple-A Iowa immediately if he feels no ill effects from this week's outings.
July 26, 2007

It's likely he would be moved up to Triple-A Iowa.
July 14, 2007
Kerry Wood should pitch in a Rookie League game within a couple of days. "Get his feet wet," GM Jim Hendry told the Chicago Tribune. "And if that goes well, we'll continue with his rehab program the next couple of weeks ... Let's be guardedly optimistic. We've all been down this path before, but when he left here the last homestand, he had a little bounce in his step, and he has thrown well in Arizona since he left here." If all goes well, and that's a big "if," Wood could make his season debut for the Cubs early next month.

March 27, 2007
Kerry Wood is dealing with shoulder discomfort, according to the Chicago Tribune. Wood felt stiffness in the shoulder after Sunday's one-inning appearance. "He obviously didn't have the same strength or throw the ball as well, and he had some discomfort after the game," GM Jim Hendry said. "[Monday] he had more stiffness than normal, more than he's had earlier in camp, which had gone smoothly except for his triceps [injury]." Wood will begin the season on the DL, but it's unclear at this point just how long he'll be out.
March 26, 2007
Kerry Wood hurt himself again on Sunday and will be examined further on Monday, according to the Daily Southtown. It's not clear whether he aggravated his strained right triceps, but any setback pretty much nixes any shot he had of starting the season on the Cubs' active roster.
March 25, 2007
The Cubs have not yet decided whether or not Kerry Wood will open the season on the active roster or if he needs more time to build up his arm strength, according to the AP. Wood, who is recovering from a strained right triceps, has given up seven runs in five innings of work this spring.

Kerry Wood, dealing with a strained right triceps, is able to throw, but he is not able to throw fastballs from the mound, according to the Chicago Tribune. "The fact that he could throw is good," pitching coach Larry Rothschild said. "It'll be better the more throwing he can do. We're not going to push it to get it sore again, but we'll keep him throwing to tolerance [of pain]. It's hard to answer [how long] until he gets on the mound and can go full bore."
March 18, 2007

"I think I had better stuff this time than I did the last time," Wood told the Cubs official site. "My stuff was a little better this time. The results obviously weren't the same, but I felt I threw the ball very similar. The slider was better, the results weren't."

February 20, 2007
Kerry Wood threw 25 pitches off the mound Monday in his first prolonged throwing session since he hurt his chest after falling out of a hot tub last week, according to the Chicago Tribune. "Today was probably 80-85 percent [of normal velocity]," Wood said. "Once this chest thing becomes a non-issue and I get it completely out of the way, I'll be able to turn it up. But I was going full-out before I came to camp, so I was ready to go, and this thing has kind of slowed it down. I figure one or two more times off the mound and I should be ready to go."
February 18, 2007
Kerry Wood threw 10 pitches off a mound, his first action since slipping while getting out of a hot tub, according to the Chicago Tribune. "It was only 10 pitches, but the fact that he's on his legs tells me he feels good, arm-wise," pitching coach Larry Rothschild said. "When the [shoulder] injuries started cropping up, he didn't use his legs at all because he didn't want to create arm speed and cause problems. You can tell he has done a lot of work with balance." There's no truth to the rumors that the Cubs have surrounded Wood in bubble wrap to avoid more injuries.

Wood said he probably would not have thrown off the mound until Friday had he not gotten hurt.
