Aaron Boone was in Cleveland on Monday to have his left knee examined, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Boone is expected to resume baseball activities in December and be ready for spring training. The Indians are believed to be planning to move Casey Blake to second base or the outfield to allow Boone to play third.

The Indians signed him to a two-year deal hoping he might return from his torn ACL in September, but this operation will definitely sideline him for the rest of the year. However, the Indians are not sure where he will play once he joins the big league team. "I think it will work its way out," said manager Eric Wedge. "Aaron is a high-caliber guy. Boone has been taking batting practice in Arizona and believes he will be able to go on a rehab assignment soon. GM Dan O'Brien indicated that the team would need to look at his medical records before showing any interest. Boone underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee -- the second such operation he's had on that knee during his career.

GM Brian Cashman allowed that the Yankees could be interested in Boone for 2005. If that happened, Boone would either play second base, or Derek Jeter would shift to second base to allow ARod to play shortstop.

The AP reports that Aaron Boone injured his left knee playing basketball and might miss the entire season. He was injured a week ago and might have a torn ACL. The team will know more once the swelling subsides. The Yankees currently do not have a backup third baseman and as of now Enrique Wilson, Miguel Cairo, and Drew Henson are the in-house options to fill the void. Henson has been working out in preparation for a return to football.
