The Marlins signed Aaron Boone to a one-year contract Friday, according to Sportsticker. Terms of the deal were not released. Boone, who hit .251 with seven homers and 46 RBI for Cleveland in 2006, will serve as a utility infielder for Florida.

The Indians declined a mutual option with Aaron Boone on Tuesday, making him eligible for free agency, according to the AP. Boone batted .251 with seven home runs and 45 RBI in 104 games, but he spent most of the last two months on the bench as the Indians gave Andy Marte the bulk of playing time at third.

Indians manager Eric Wedge confirmed on Friday that Aaron Boone will see significantly less playing time now that Andy Marte has been recalled from Triple-A, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He will be more of a utility player," Wedge said. "He understands where we're at as a ballclub." In addition to third base, Boone could see some occasional action at second and first base. The Indians are still trying to trade him before Monday's deadline.

Boone was not in the lineup for the second straight day on Wednesday, and Cleveland has an off day on Thursday. Ramon Vazquez has been filling in for Boone.
