Tigers third baseman Carlos Guillen said an MRI exam he underwent on Tuesday night revealed a pinched nerve in his lower back and he will rest for the next two or three days before considering a return to the lineup, according to MLB.com.

Carlos Guillen has rejoined the Tigers Sunday but is available to only play in an emergency, according to MLive.com. He said his wife, Amelia, was in stable condition and expected to be released from the hospital Monday, after being admitted Tuesday for surgery to correct bleeding problems connected to the birth two weeks ago of their daughter, Camelia. Guillen added, "She's doing better. Tuesday morning, she woke up bleeding, and the doctor sent her to the hospital for surgery to stop the bleeding."

MLB.com reports that Carlos Guillen will miss Friday's game against Baltimore. He returned to Detroit after Tuesday's All-Star Game to be with his wife while she deals with complications following the birth of their daughter last week.

Carlos Guillen is likely salivating over his match-up against Seattle starter Carlos Silva tonight. Guillen demolishes Silva to the tune of a .531 average over 32 at-bats. Eight of Guillen's 17 hits off the righty are for extra bases, and he has only struck out one time against him.

Carlos Guillen is moving again. The infielder is slated to start in left field on Sunday, the Detroit Free Press reports. Guillen has never played outfield in the pros. "This is how I can get (Guillen) in the lineup if I want to play (Brandon) Inge at third," manager Jim Leyland explains. Guillen will remain the regular third baseman.

Carlos Guillen served as DH on Tuesday because he wasn't able to play third base. "The decision is that he can hardly move," manager Jim Leyland tells the Detroit News. "He has hemorrhoids so bad he probably shouldn't have been out there. I don't know if he's going to have them lanced or not. I talked to him about whether he could even run, but he said he was all right. At third, though, he wouldn't have been able to get down (for ground balls)." The issue has been bothering the infielder for four or five days.

Carlos Guillen kept his terrific spring going on Saturday, hitting his seventh home run of the month in a 9-4 loss to Houston. These are huge numbers from the converted shortstop. Guillen had a career-best 21 homers in 2007, and while it's difficult to imagine the 32-year old is just now finding his peak power stroke, the Tiger had a over-the-top spring.
