Jose Guillen hoped to avoid surgery on his ailing shoulder, but he is scheduled to undergo a procedure to repair the slight labrum tear in the joint on Monday, according to the Washington Post. He is expected to be ready for spring training.

Jose Guillen was bothered all of last season by a problematic left shoulder, and an MRI exam last week revealed a "slap" tear to his labrum, according to the Washington Post. Though no surgery is scheduled, it remains a strong possibility. Recovery from such surgery typically takes between four and six months, so if Guillen has to have the procedure he might not be ready for opening day.
