Jose Guillen has been suspended 15 days by Major League baseball for violating the sport's drug program, according to the AP. The slugger was linked in media reports to the purchase of human growth hormone. Guillen, who recently inked a three-year contract with Kansas City, will begin serving the suspension at the beginning of the 2008 season.

The Players Association is negotiating with MLB officials on a possible 10- to 15-day suspension for Jose Guillen for his reported involvement in the purchase of steroids and HGH. The San Francisco Chronicle reported last month that Guillen bought nearly $20,000 worth of steroids and HGH from 2003 through 2005, according to ESPN.com. Guillen just signed a three-year, $36 million deal with Kansas City yesterday.

Guillen was recently linked to steroids, but it doesn't appear as though that will convince many teams not to pursue him this winter. The Royals have already shown interest in the outfielder.

He ordered more than $19,000 worth of drugs from the center between May 2002 and June 2005, according to the records. Guillen is a free agent, and this could obviously affect how he is pursued.

Apparently, his hamstrings were so sore from playing three games on artificial turf early this week, that he needed a massage just to play on Friday, according to the Seattle Times. "I can say, that was the first time I ever wanted to have a day off," Guillen said. "Both my hamstrings feel like they weigh 700 pounds." Look for Guillen to get back in the mix on Sunday.
