Keith Foulke, who is recovering from neck stiffness, is continuing his long throwing program at the team's complex in Phoenix and he could be on track to pitch in a game on Friday, either at extended spring in Arizona or as a rehab appearance with a minor-league club, according to the SF Chronicle. Because reliever Foulke does not have to build up his arm strength the way a starter would, it's possible he will be back in Oakland's bullpen on their next homestand.
April 26, 2008
Keith Foulke has begun throwing in Phoenix, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from neck soreness, and made 30 throws from a distance of 80 feet and said he felt OK. He is eligible to come off the DL today, but he probably won't return until the team's next homestand.

March 19, 2008
Keith Foulke surrendered four runs (three earned) on two hits over one inning of work against the Angels, with the bulk of the damage coming on a Vlad Guerrerro grand slam. His ERA jumped to 15.75 and he holds no fantasy value.

Keith Foulke , whose wife gave birth to a boy early Friday morning, threw his second simulated game of the spring on Friday. According to the team website Foulke said he used all his pitches and is coming along. Foulke sat out last season after leaving Indians spring camp because of assorted injuries and at one point retired. The right-hander has no fantasy value in traditional formats.
March 4, 2008
The A’s report RHP Keith Foulke , struggling with the right calf strain, threw off a mound to hitters for the first time today, according to ESPN. The A's remain steady in failing to report a timeline for Foulke's possible return to action, but today's works is a positive sign.
February 28, 2008
Keith Foulke threw off the mound for the first time since suffering a mild calf sprain, reports SFGate.com. The veteran right-hander threw 15 flat-ground warmups, then 15 pitches off the mound, and he is expected to see an increased workload on Friday. There is no timetable for Foulke to pitch in an exhibition game yet.
February 21, 2008
Keith Foulke has a slightly strained right calf muscle, according to the team website, and was held out of his scheduled side session on Wednesday. He's day-to-day with no definitive timetable for a return to spring work.
February 15, 2008
Keith Foulke took his first bullpen session of the spring, and did so with his old team, according to MLB.com. The former A's closer, who was, for all intent and purpose, retired --impressed the A's in a scouting session before they signed him. Justin Knoedler caught Foulke and thought the veteran threw well. "He hit his spots, he threw about 40 pitches ...[and] he had some decent life on his ball," Knoedler said. Foulke, even with an untimely injury to Huston Street, has no fantasy value in traditional formats.
February 8, 2008
Keith Foulke ended his retirement and returned to the A's on Friday, agreeing to a $700,000, one-year contract that allows him to earn $2.5 million more in bonuses, according to the AP. "I decided I was not ready to leave baseball," Foulke said. "I started throwing again last November. It didn't take long to figure out I needed to give my knees a year. It was December before I could throw pain-free with my mechanics." There's a chance that Foulke, who missed all of last season due to elbow surgery, could get a chance to close games again if the A's ongoing fire sale claims Huston Street.
February 8, 2008
Keith Foulke is getting close to inking a one-year contract with the A's, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A's pitching coach Curt Young said that Foulke looked like his old self when he worked out for several teams in January. Foulke missed all of last season due to elbow surgery, but if he passes a physical, the deal should be done later today. Obviously, the contract will be laden with incentives.
January 24, 2008
The D'Backs appear to be close to making former All-Star Keith Foulke a contract. Foulke sat out last year and ended up having surgery on his pitching elbow to remove bone chips. "Yeah, definitely they are one of his top choices," said Dan Horwits, Foulke's agent, told the Arizona Republic. "If it works out, he would love to pitch there. There are other teams he is interested in as well, but Arizona is on the top of the list." The righty through for the D'Backs last week and his fastball sat in the 81-84 range, though he could get some more velocity as his arm gets into shape. The team likely envisions Foulke as a potential setup man, not a possibility at closer, despite his 190 career saves.
January 9, 2008
Keith Foulke is wanting to pitch again after sitting out the 2007 season following surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow. The D'Backs plan to watch Foulke throw later this month, but it's not clear at this point what other teams will be in attendance, according to the Arizona Republic. It's possible (though very unlikely) that Foulke could end up competing for the closer role in Arizona, but he'll probably have to work his way back as a middle reliever at first.
