Keith Foulke took his first bullpen session of the spring, and did so with his old team, according to MLB.com. January 24, 2008
The D'Backs appear to be close to making former All-Star Keith Foulke a contract. Foulke sat out last year and ended up having surgery on his pitching elbow to remove bone chips. "Yeah, definitely they are one of his top choices," said Dan Horwits, Foulke's agent, told the Arizona Republic. "If it works out, he would love to pitch there. There are other teams he is interested in as well, but Arizona is on the top of the list." The righty through for the D'Backs last week and his fastball sat in the 81-84 range, though he could get some more velocity as his arm gets into shape. The team likely envisions Foulke as a potential setup man, not a possibility at closer, despite his 190 career saves.
January 9, 2008
Keith Foulke is wanting to pitch again after sitting out the 2007 season following surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow. The D'Backs plan to watch Foulke throw later this month, but it's not clear at this point what other teams will be in attendance, according to the Arizona Republic. It's possible (though very unlikely) that Foulke could end up competing for the closer role in Arizona, but he'll probably have to work his way back as a middle reliever at first.
