Player Notes
September 11, 2009
Miguel Batista has left the Mariners to attend to a family matter, according to the Seattle Times.
February 16, 2009
Manager Don Wakamatsu indicated that Miguel Batista is a candidate to be the Mariners' closer, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Aaron Heilman and J.J. Putz are gone and Brandon Morrow may pitch in the rotation.
August 26, 2008
Seattle right-hander Miguel Batista made his first start since August 4th and gave up just one run on five hits in six innings while striking out three, but Batista's re-entry into the rotation appears to be short-lived, according to MLB.com. If the rotation went in order, his next start would have been on Sunday against Cleveland -- the day manager Jim Riggleman has designated starter Carlos Silva's return to the rotation after spending two weeks on the disabled list with right triceps tendinitis. "Just the way the timing of it works out, it looks like he won't start because we've got an off-day Thursday, and [Jarrod] Washburn will pitch on an extra day's rest as it is," Riggleman said on Tuesday. "Felix [Hernandez] will pitch [Saturday], and Silva will pitch Sunday ... so we kind of run out of days there with that off-day."
August 7, 2008
Miguel Batista has been dropped from the Mariners' starting rotation and will not make his scheduled start on Saturday, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
July 30, 2008
Seattle RHP Miguel Batista put a strong outing on the mound tonight but the Mariners failed to produce the offense needed for a win, falling 4-3 to the Rangers. Batista pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
