The Blue Jays may keep Miguel Batista as their closer next season if they're confident in their starting rotation, according to the team's official web site. GM J.P. Ricciardi said "If we think Gustavo Chacin can pitch in that role (as a starter), we may keep Batista as the closer."

Miguel Batista was able to throw seven innings yesterday despite being bothered by a broken blister on his right index finger, according to the Toronto Sun. "In the first inning it didn't feel good, it was burning me but after the second inning it started feeling better and better. Then after that I couldn't feel my finger," he said.

The Toronto Star is suggesting that the Blue Jays convert Miguel Batista into a closer next season. There's been no indication that the team would seriously consider the idea, though Batista did say he would be willing to do so, and pitching coach Gil Patterson added that Batista's arm is able to rebound quickly to pitch relief.
