The Diamondbacks reacquired Miguel Batista from the Blue Jays along with Orlando Hudson in exchange for Troy Glaus and shortstop prospect Sergio Santos. Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said that the Jays are not interested in trading Miguel Batista to the Dodgers for Milton Bradley, according to the Toronto Sun. A deal between the two teams was rumored on Thursday.

The Blue Jays should step up their efforts to trade Miguel Batista now that they have signed A.J. Burnett. If Batista remains in Toronto, he will be used out of the bullpen but not as the closer.

The Toronto Sun reports that Miguel Batista could be moved back into the starting rotation if the Blue Jays fail to sign A.J. Burnett. Of course, that's assuming that Batista is not dealt in the offseason. "We've had a lot of teams calling about Batista," GM J.P Ricciardi said Tuesday.

The 2006 role of Miguel Batista is up in the air now that the Blue Jays have signed B.J. Ryan. Batista could be traded or moved to middle relief, or if the Jays are unable to sign a starting pitcher he could move back to the rotation.

Despite recent struggles, the closer job of Miguel Batista is not in jeopardy, according to the Blue Jays official site. "They were raving about him two months ago," said Toronto manager John Gibbons, correctly noting the difference in public opinion. "I think he's done a nice job for us. It's magnified at the end because he's struggled a little bit of late." Batista has blown five of his last 17 save opportunities.
March 11, 2005
The Blue Jays have decided to move Miguel Batista into the closer's role again, just a few weeks after Justin Speier had been dubbed the closer, according to the Toronto Star.
