Miguel Batista and the Mariners have reached an agreement on a three-year, $24 million contract, the Seattle Times reports. The deal will be finalized once Batista passes a routine physical, something that shouldn't be a problem for a player who prides himself on his physical fitness, even at age 35.

"I understand the reluctance to change philosophy somewhat and potentially give up runs on his secondary stuff," pitching coach Bryan Price said. After throwing three innings on Wednesday, Miguel Batista was optimistic that he'd be ready for the start of the season after a couple of starts, according to the Arizona Republic. "The last time I threw three innings, I think it was, what, two and a half years ago?" said Batista, who was Toronto's closer last season but will be in Arizona's starting rotation this year. "I have two more starts and that should be good enough to get up to around 90 pitches or something like that. ... I have enough time to get ready. It doesn't take me long."
