Eric Chavez stated on Monday that if he could go back, he would have gone on the disabled list earlier in the year when he was dealing with problems in both forearms, accordingt to the Contra Costa Times. "For me, personally, yes, but as far as the team is concerned, I don't know, because here we are in first place," he said. "For me, personally, there's no doubt in my mind I would have benefited from going on the DL four to six weeks. What it would have done is take care of multiple things, not just one thing." Chavez is hitting just .241 with 21 homers and 69 RBI this year.

Eric Chavez and several other Oakland regulars will likely get some rest next week after the A's clinch the AL West, according to the team's official site. Oakland's magic number is two entering Sunday's play. "I'd much rather have healthy and fresh players ready to go," manager Ken Macha said. "It'll be a little bit of a juggling act [with the lineup]." Chavez was battling a sore hamstring last week, so there's a logical angle for him to get some rest after the division is locked up.

Tests on Wednesday showed that not only does Eric Chavez have tendinitis in both forearms, he has tendinitis in both elbows as well, according to the Contra Costa Times. Nonetheless, Chavez went 2-for-4 on Wednesday, his first multi-hit game since June 16. "The first day here (on this homestand), it's the best I've felt in a long time," Chavez said. "The last two days it's been not as good. It's getting better."
