Eric Chavez is currently rehabbing from his third surgery of the fall, but he's still anticipating being ready for opening day next year, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Still, with all of the operations he's gone through, it seems likely he'll make it through the 2008 season unscathed.

Eric Chavez underwent a procedure Friday to remove damaged tissue from his left shoulder, according to the AP. It was his third operation in the last two months. Chavez is scheduled to begin physical therapy in about a week, and the A's are hopeful the third baseman will be ready to go by the time spring training begins next year.

A’s third baseman Eric Chavez had successful surgery on his right shoulder earlier this week and is expected to return in time for spring training, according to the Associated Press. Chavez had a damaged biceps tendon repaired and a "loose body" removed from the joint in an operation performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum on Wednesday.

The lower-back pain that forced Chavez to the DL isn't getting any better and could end up being more serious than originally thought, according to the Mercury News. Chavez will meet with a doctor in Texas on Wednesday. "We'll see what he's got to say," Chavez said. "I'll get an opinion and then I might see somebody else and then come up with a game plan. We're hoping that someone can point us in the right direction." Chavez said it would likely be "at least a couple weeks" before he returns.

Eric Chavez had treatment on his arms Monday, something that will be a regular routine as he tries to avoid the tendinitis in his forearms and elbows that slowed him in 2006, the AP reports. "I don't think I could play without it," Chavez said of the detailed massage work. "I just need to do a little bit of work to build up strength. I didn't lift weights much this winter." Perhaps Chavez views this as a preventative measure, because a few days back he said he wasn't feeling discomfort in his forearms after dealing with it in March.

Eric Chavez is seeing a chiropractor regularly as he deals with occasional forearm discomfort, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He had one of these sessions Tuesday. Asked if he considered the forearm tightness to be a chronic condition, Chavez said "It kind of seems like it. But at least I know how to solve it when it happens." Chavez has also acknowledged changing his stance this year; his hands are higher, he's not standing as upright at the plate, and he's more crouched, an effort to have a more solid base for hitting.
