The Brewers have brought Russell Branyan in on a minor-league deal. The all-or-nothing Branyan hit just .196 last year in his time with the Phillies, Padres and Cardinals, though he did bang out 10 homers in 163 at-bats. He struck out 69 times, as well. Branyan does provide a bit of versatility and pop off the bench, but he shouldn't be gracing your fantasy roster at any point in 2008.

The Brewers are on the verge of signing veteran Russell Branyan, reports JS Online. The agreement is reported as a minor-league deal to add depth to the Triple-A roster in Nashville. "We told him it would be just for the minor leagues, at least right now," assistant general manager Gord Ash said. Branyan, 32, who played for the Brewers in 2004 and '05, split last season between Philadelphia, San Diego and St. Louis. His 2007 numbers were power laden, but unimpressive overall -- batting .196 with 10 homers and 26 RBI in 163 at-bats.

Russell Branyan faces a trial on domestic violence charges next month. Branyan's wife, Jill, alleges that the veteran assaulted her in a car on Jan. 31, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. According to Jill, Russell reached over and grabbed his wife's mouth to stop her from talking when the two were in an argument. The force of the grab caused her to develop a swollen lip and some bleeding. Branyan, who plead not guilty, is still currently looking for a job, and this charge certainly doesn't help his chances at landing one.
