Doctors have told him the odds are good that he will need to have surgery at the end of this season, and Beltre commented, "The bone spurs are still there, but they're not too bad now, I'm used to them. It hurts every time I swing and miss. I'd like to make more contact, because that doesn't hurt as much. It hurts to hold the bat it hurts every time. There's always pain." Beltre remains a risky fantasy option.
