The Mets exercised Moises Alou's option for 2008 on Wednesday, according to Newsday. The option was for $7.5 million, although it was essentially a $6.5 million decision because of the $1 million buyout. Alou played in only 87 games this year due to a left quad injury, but he still hit .341 in 13 homers and 49 RBI. He'll be a risk/reward option next season.

Moises Alou was 3-for-4 Wednesday, returning to the lineup one day after leaving with tightness in his left quad. "That's Moises," Willie Randolph said in the New York Post. "He's a gamer. He wants to play." Alou said he probably would have sit out if they Mets weren't in a pennant race, though he also said the quad was feeling better.

Moises Alou's expected return from the disabled list was pushed back to the end of the week, after an MRI exam on Tuesday showed tendinitis in the outfielder's right shoulder, the AP reports. The 41-year-old Alou hurt himself Sunday taking a swing in a rehab game. "Actually, I'm pleased with the results. It could have been worse," Alou said. "I'm feeling a lot better today."

Moises Alou homered in his first rehab game Monday and said he is only one or two weeks away from returning to the majors, according to the AP. "It was nice to be out there batting," Alou said. GM Omar Minaya said the Mets were hoping that could happen as soon as Monday, but Minaya told the New York Daily News that he expects it to be "a little later."
