"It's fair to say we'll go with someone internal right now," said GM Omar Minaya. Minaya went on to hint that the team still views Endy Chavez as their fourth OF so they may go with either Brady Clark or Angel Pagan as a starter for the first month of the season.

Moises Alou will miss the start of the season for the Mets after it was learned he will need to have surgery on his groin, this according to the AP. Alou will have the surgery on Thursday and likely be sidelined for 4-6 weeks. Still a tremendous hitter, Alou usually waits until the start of the year before getting hurt, so even for him this is a bit early to be out of the lineup. With Ryan Church also dealing with the effects of a concussion, the Mets OF is suddenly very thin with Angel Pagan, Endy Chavez and Marlon Anderson now being in a position to possibly have to cover some substantial at-bats.

Moises Alou doesn't want 2008 to be his last season. "The past three years I've been looking forward for the season to be over, to go home and retire," Alou said in the AP. "But now I'm looking forward to a good season, so they can ask me to back to play another year." Alou had a terrific 2007 season when he was healthy, hitting .341 with 13 homers in 328 at-bats. He's still a worthy fantasy option, just make sure you have someone that can fill in for him when he gets hurt.
