The White Sox announced Thursday that Frank Thomas has officially exercised his $8 million player option for 2005. He underwent surgery on his fractured ankle earlier this month and may not be ready for the start of the season.

Frank Thomas underwent surgery yesterday to repair a bone in his left ankle, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Two screws were inserted into his ankle, a bone graft was done and debris was cleared from the area. There is a chance he may not be ready for the start of next season.
