The Seattle Post-Intelligencer suggests that there is truth to the rumors that Ichiro Suzuki is at the center of the Mariners' chemistry issues. J.J. Putz recently claimed that there was "so much more (Ichiro) could do." Former Mariners manager Jim Riggleman also said that he approached Ichiro and asked him to change his approach after the all-star break. Adrian Beltre says that there were some players who were not playing the game the right way last season, but he would not go as far as to name Ichiro. And finally, new manager Don Wakamatsu suggested that the team's hierarchy needs to be changed to one of equality.

There has been some talks that Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki might pitch for Japan in the World Baseball Classic, but it's an idea the Mariners are not on board with, according to MLB.com. "I don't think it's a good idea. I just don't think it is a very good idea after the career he has built. It wouldn't be worth hurting his elbow," said new Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu.
