The Red Sox acquired Alex Cora from the Indians in exchange for Ramon Vazquez, according to the AP. Cora hit .205 with a home run and eight RBI in 49 games with Cleveland this season.

The Indians signed Alex Cora to a two-year deal on Tuesday. He will provide insurance in case the inexperienced Jhonny Peralta or Brandon Phillips can't grab hold of the starting shorstop job and will also back up Ronnie Belliard at second base.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Alex Cora is close to signing with the Indians. According to the report, there's an understanding that Cora would play 60 to 90 games at second base and shortstop. Cora also provides an option to start at short if neither Jhonny Peralta nor Brandon Phillips is up to the task.
