Alex Gonzalez won't play for two or three days while getting back into baseball shape after spending a week on the bereavement list, manager Pete Mackanin told the AP. Gonzalez had been on the bereavement list since Aug. 15 while tending to his son, who is suffering from an undisclosed illness in Miami. He's been on the bereavement list three times this season. There's another variable here - Jeff Keppinger has been sizzling as the temporary shortstop, on a 27-for-60 tear this month. We'll see how the Reds opt to play it.

"I have no idea [when Gonzalez will play] and until someone comes up and tells me, I'm not going to worry about it," interim manager Pete Mackanin said. "Certainly I'd love to have him at shortstop, but if there's nothing you can do, I'm not going to worry about it. I'm just praying for his family and hope that everything works out for the best." Gonzalez's wife is ill, so the Reds are just going to have to wait until Gonzalez feels it's time to get back on the field.
