The Mets designated Nelson Figueroa for assignment on Tuesday night. Claudio Vargas has been called up to take his rotation spot.

April 28, 2008
The Monday night game between the Pirates and Mets was postponed due to rain. Ian Snell and Johan Santana will now take the ball to the mound on Tuesday, and the result of the cancellation means Nelson Figueroa will give his scheduled Sunday start against the D'backs and Daren Haren to Santana.

April 27, 2008
Mets starter Nelson Figueroa cruised through the first five innings of Sunday's win over Atlanta, allowing just three hits. But he gave up hits to four of the first five batters in the sixth inning before leaving the game.

Nelson Figueroa came back to Earth a bit on, uh, Earth Day. The right-hander allowed seven hits and three runs over five innings against the Cubs. Figueroa hurt himself by issuing five walks (two intentional).

April 15, 2008
Nelson Figueroa is going to remain in the Mets' rotation longer, as the team is going to push Pedro Martinez back, according to the NY Post. The team wants to be careful with Pedro's hamstring strain and GM Omar Minaya added, "We're definitely going to be more conservative with him. With hamstrings, you just never know. We've got to be careful." Martinez could be out until possibly June.
