Jason Marquis will be on the Cubs' NLDS roster, but he's unlikely to make a start. The team plans to use a three-man rotation against the D'Backs, though manager Piniella isn't ready to make a formal commitment, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Obviously, I'd rather start," Marquis said. "That was my role all year. That's where I feel most comfortable. But the decision isn't up to me."

Jason Marquis could be the odd man out in the NLDS series versus the D'Backs. The Cubs plan on going with a three-man rotation, which leaves Marquis, the No. 4 starter, out of the mix, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "We're probably going to pitch this series with three starting pitchers," manager Lou Pinella said on local Chicago radio station WSCR-AM (670). "I'm talking about [Carlos] Zambrano, [Ted] Lilly and Hill. If we get into Sunday, I think we'll bring Zambrano back on three days' rest, which allows us to use Lilly on his regular turn on Tuesday if there's a fifth game needed." It's possible the Cubs may use Marquis out of the bullpen. If not, it appears the right-hander will have to wait until the NLCS - assuming the Cubs make it there - to pitch this postseason.

Jason Marquis will throw in a minor-league intrasquad game Friday to stay on schedule, the Chicago Tribune reports. He's expected to begin the year as the No. 3 starter.
