Matt Clement cleared waivers Monday morning, and the Cardinals immediately optioned him to Triple-A Memphis, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Matt Clement pitched well in a relief role for Triple-A Memphis, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He walked one batter and struck out two in one inning.

June 23, 2008
Matt Clement has been moved to the bullpen at Triple-A Memphis, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. GM John Mozeliak said, "At this point, we believe Mulder is farther ahead. Clement has had some good outings but has not been able to do it every fifth day."

Matt Clement's next rehab outing will come on Friday at Triple-A Memphis, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes. He is recovering from right shoulder surgery and is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA through three rehab outings.

GM John Mozeliak said Matt Clement, who is coming back from shoulder surgery, could be back with the Cardinals by the end of the month, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Clement struggled in his rehab start at Double-A Springfield on Sunday, allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts over five innings.
