Eyre had a cortisone shot in his left elbow on Monday to alleviate the soreness, but he isn't worried about the prospect of having surgery. He stated, "I've had a bone spur in there for a couple of years. Now it's just getting worse. They put some cortisone in there to calm the inflammation down and see if I could pitch without some pain for a while. It'd be nice. There's nothing wrong with my ligament or the nerve in there. No season–ending surgery or anything like that in the works. It's just a bone spur in the back and it's biting back right now." The Cubs wont pitch Eyre again this spring with only five exhibition games remaining, which would allow them to backdate him on the disabled list. He was battling for a bullpen spot. |
