He said he may have to deal with occasional soreness this season, but he's been told surgery is not an option. "I don't have a problem, just soreness," said Ortiz. "There's nothing I can do about it. Ice it and exercises."

The Boston Globe reports that David Ortiz had the shoulder that bothered him last season examined over the winter by a Dominican doctor and was declared healthy. "It was nothing but inflammation," he said. "It doesn't bother me to swing the bat. I still feel pain sometimes, especially when I finish doing my workouts, when I get my work in and go home to sleep, it bothers me a little bit. But it's way better than what it used to [be]."
