Mike Lowell hit his first home run and drove in his first runs of the 2008 season on Monday night. In a 6-3 win over the Tigers, Lowell started the Boston scoring with a two run shot of Jeremy Bonderman in the top half of the second inning.

Mike Lowell has been activated from the DL (sprained left thumb) and is going to return to his post at third base tonight against Toronto, according to the Boston Globe. The team designated pitcher Bryan Corey for assignment to make room on the roster for Lowell.

Red Sox 3B Mike Lowell is progressing towards return as he works with Triple-A Pawtucket, according to the Providence Journal. Lowell served as the team's DH in his first game with the minor-league affiliate, the first of a scheduled 20-day rehab assignment as Lowell works to return from a sprained left thumb, and went 1-for-5 at the plate.

Mike Lowell took batting practice on Tuesday and didn't have much problem with his sprained left thumb. "He looked great," manager Terry Francona tells MLB.com. "I was waiting to have him kind of nurse the bat through the zone. He looked great. Again, how he responds to that is important." If all goes well, Lowell could begin minor league rehab work by this weekend.

Mike Lowell is expected to take batting practice on Tuesday, his first such action since spraining his left thumb on April 9. The club doesn't know if he'll be ready to be activated by Friday, though. "If I'm healthy, I don't see why I wouldn't," Lowell tells MLB.com. "If I'm pain-free, I'm hoping. We'll see. It's a work in progress."

"Barring setbacks -- and we're still kind of early into this -- we might be getting into a place where maybe we're a week away from him playing in a game," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. Mike Lowell has been placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained left thumb, according to the Providence Journal. Jed Lowrie has been recalled from Pawtucket. The report noted that Lowell walked into the clubhouse with a removable cast on his right arm. He injured the thumb in the first inning of Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Boston’s Mike Lowell has exited tonight’s matchup with the Detroit Tigers after suffering an unknown injury to his left hand, according to MLB.com. The Sox believe it is a sprained left thumb and initial X-rays were negative for fracture. Sean Casey has entered in relief of Lowell and the team will revisit his condition tomorrow.

The dispute between the Red Sox and MLB about staff stipends for the two-game trip to Japan may be over, MLB.com reports. The Red Sox players have begun warming up for Wednesday's spring game against the Blue Jays.

The Red Sox plan to boycott the Blue Jays game on Thursday and skip the scheduled trip to Japan if their coaches and other staff aren't properly compensated. "It's not just the coaches, it's the staff, the trainers, a lot of people are affected by this," Mike Lowell tells the Boston Globe. "I'm so super proud of this team. When we put it to a vote it was unanimous, we're all in agreement that we're not going to put up with this." The coaches assumed they were going to receive a $40,000 stipend from the league for making the two-game trip, but that is not currently the case.
