The Milwaukee Brewers' showcased their new closer by committee in a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. With Eric Gagne out as the closer, the Brewers turned to Salomon Torres and Brian Shouse in the ninth. Torres allowed a leadoff double and a walk before giving way to Shouse with two outs. Shouse, a left-handed specialist, gave up an RBI single to Yadier Molina before finishing for his first save and fifth of his career.

The Brewers avoided arbitration by signing Brian Shouse to a one-year deal Wednesday. The left-handed Shouse was effective out of pen for the Brew Crew last year, holding a 3.02 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 73 games.

The Brewers re-signed Brian Shouse to a one-year contract Tuesday worth $975,000, according to the AP. Shouse went 1-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 65 games with the Rangers and Brewers in 2006.

Acquired from the Rangers yesterday, Brian Shouse is expected to join the Brewers and be added to their 25-man roster today, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "He's a situational lefty, a guy to come out of the bullpen to get lefties out in big situations," Brewers manager Ned Yost said.

The Brewers acquired Brian Shouse from the Rangers in exchange for minor league infielder Enrique Cruz and a player to be determined, according to the AP. Shouse has spent the 2006 season on the disabled list with a strained left calf. In seven minor league appearances this year, he went 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA.
