"[Hernandez] should be a starter," Guillen said. "It's up to him to see how he feels." However, Guillen also said that Brandon McCarthy should be a starter, and there isn't room for both.

As expected, manager Ozzie Guillen announced Monday that the White Sox will keep Orlando Hernandez on the postseason roster instead of Brandon McCarthy, according to the Daily Southtown. "We'll stay with 'Duque' because we can't use McCarthy," Guillen said. "He started (Sunday) and we couldn't use him until (Friday or Saturday) or the fifth game if we have one. In the fifth game, I'm going with (Jose) Contreras or (Mark) Buehrle. That's why we put 'El Duque' out of the bullpen."

There has been speculation that Guillen would replace Hernandez in the rotation with Brandon McCarthy. "I'm not going to let my guys down," Guillen said. "The guy's getting paid the money to do what he does. The guy has brought me all the way here to this point. I have a lot of confidence in 'El Duque'; he had one bad outing." El Duque is 1-2 with an 8.78 ERA over his last three starts.

By putting Hernandez in the fifth spot, the team would be able to skip him more frequently, which might provide the rest needed to keep him healthy for late in the season. GM Kenny Williams indicated over the weekend that rookie Brandon McCarthy would be given a shot to take Hernandez's spot in the rotation, but McCarthy will need to pitch a lot better than he has in his first three big league starts for that to happen.
