Ted Lilly will be looking for his first win of the season today when he takes the hill against the Mets, according to MLB.com. He is currently 0-3 with a 9.16 ERA, and has allowed five earned runs in each of his last three starts. He did fare well in his lone start against the Mets in 2007 however, as he only allowed two runs over 7.2 innings, with no walks and eight strikeouts in a win.
April 16, 2008
Ted Lilly is experiencing a "mysterious" drop in velocity on his pitches, according to The Chicago Sun-Times. He is not injured or hurting, and the team has not sent him out for even a precautionary medical test. Lilly said, "It's frustrating. You don't understand it, but guys go through it all the time. A lot of pitchers win without velocity. I'm not going to use that as an excuse." He is still scheduled to pitch on Thursday.
April 12, 2008
Ted Lilly struggled again on Saturday night as he allowed seven hits (two HR), two walks and five runs in just 4.1 innings in his second loss of the season.
April 7, 2008
Ted Lilly was awful on Monday as he allowed five runs and nine baserunners in just 3.2 innings before being removed from a game the Cubs came back to win. That's two ugly outings in a row for Lilly who has thrown only 8.1 innings with a 9.72 ERA. A lot will have to go right for Lilly to approach the career best numbers he posted last season, and if this start is any indicator it looks like a regression is coming down the pipe for Lilly.
