Player Notes
April 25, 2008
Odalis Perez will try to break into the win column when he battles the Cubs tonight, according to MLB.com. Perez is 0-3 with a 3.37 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 26.2 innings, with 20 strikeouts.
April 20, 2008
Odalis Perez pitched well in a no-decision on Sunday, as he only allowed one run on five hits over six innings of work against Florida, with three walks and seven strikeouts.
April 15, 2008
Odalis Perez picked up his third loss of the season this evening, falling to the New York Mets 0-6. However, that's not to say Perez wasn't throwing well. He completed six innings of work, allowing just two runs on six hits.
April 10, 2008
Odalis Perez scattered six hits over 5.2 innings, allowed two runs, no walks and struck out six in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins. This is about as good as it gets with the veteran right-hander, yet it wasn't enough as the Nats dropped their seventh straight game after opening the season, 3-0.
March 30, 2008
Odalis Perez pitched well in a no decision against the Braves on Sunday night as he only allowed one run on four hits over five innings, with one walk and two strikeouts, with most of the damage coming on a Chipper Jones solo homer. That was a strong first outing for the Nationals' number one pitcher.
March 23, 2008
Odalis Perez will get the Opening Day start for the Nationals, according to Districtofbaseball.com. Manager Acta commented, "He won more games than any one of our starters last year in the big leagues, he's the only one on our staff who has won 15 games before and he has pitched well in spring training. He earned it." He will fill the number one role following the surprising release of John Patterson.
March 20, 2008
Nationals purchased the contract of veteran left-hander Odalis Perez on Thursday. Perez is expected to fill the role of recently released John Patterson, a surprise to say the least. Fantasy owners shouldn't be found anywhere near the aging veteran as Perez offers very little in any rotisserie category.
March 15, 2008
Odalis Perez was shaky in his first spring start on Saturday as he allowed four runs on five hits over 4.1 innings against the Dodgers, with two walks and one strikeout. He is fighting for a rotation spot with the Nationals.
March 11, 2008
LHP Odalis Perez was officially granted his work visa today, according to MLB.com. The Nationals' starting pitcher wasn't expected to get his work visa until late March, but Jose Rijo, the team's special assistant to GM Jim Bowden, assisted the effort and helped Perez get it done early. Perez is now clear to play in MLB exhibition games and will be making his first start later this week. Perez has been working with the minor league club and has experienced a bit of trouble locating his cutter and keeping his fastball down in the zone. However, joining the big league club will get him in front of the coaching he needs to get ready for the regular season.
February 19, 2008
Odalis Perez signed a minor league agreement with the Nationals on Tuesday, according to the Washington Post. The report notes that the deal is a one-year, non-guaranteed minor league deal that will pay him $850,000 if he makes the team. While Perez very well could be a part of the Opening Day roster, outside of deep NL-only formats he is not a fantasy option.
February 18, 2008
Odalis Perez is drawing interest from the Nationals according to a report on MLB.com. As it stands, if Perez where to sign with the Nats he would certainly get the chance to earn a starting spot since the team currently boasts, well perhaps that isn't the right word, a spotty top-5 of John Patterson, Shawn Hill, Jason Bergmann, John Lannan and Matt Chico. Still, be very careful with drafting Perez as he was one of the worst pitchers in the game last season (5.57 ERA, 1.66 WHIP).

Former KC starting pitcher Odalis Perez was recently scouted by the Phillies during a staged workout in the Dominican Republic, according to the Kansas City Star. Philadelphia assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told the Philadelphia Daily News the club’s interest was “lukewarm.” The Phillies are more interested in right-hander Kris Benson and plan to make the free agent an offer sometime in the next week.
