The A's acquired Kiko Calero from the Cardinals in the Mark Mulder deal. Calero will serve as a setup man to Octavio Dotel.

Kiko Calero got the final two outs for the Cardinals on Friday night to earn his second save. The Cards plan to rest Jason Isringhausen a bit down the stretch, and with Julian Tavarez serving an eight-game suspension, Calero could be in line for another save or two.

Kiko Calero threw 32 pitches to hitters on Tuesday and said that he felt no discomfort in his surgically-repaired knee, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Calero, who has experienced minor swelling in the knee since reporting to camp, is expected to throw again on Friday.

Kiko Calero underwent knee surgery last June, but the Cardinals are not sure of his status as spring training gets underway, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We don\'t really know what we have with him," said manager Tony La Russa. "There have been a lot of calls he hasn\'t returned. I\'m not exactly sure why."
